Three-time Grammy Award-winner Terence Blanchard was born in New Orleans. In addition to his presence as a touring and recording artist, Blanchard is active as a film composer for the films of writer/director Spike Lee, including Malcolm X, Mo’ Better Blues, Do The Right Thing, and Jungle Fever.
Hurricane Katrina provided inspiration for Blanchard’s newest album, 2007’s Grammy Award-winning A Tale of God’s Will: A Requiem for Katrina. An important jumpstart for the album was film director Spike Lee’s decision to document the aftermath of the hurricane on film, in what turned out to be a four-hour HBO documentary, When the Levees Broke.
