Beethoven and Mahler
JoAnn Falletta, conductor
Prisca Benoit, piano
Mahler said, “A symphony must be like the world. It must contain everything.” And his Symphony No. 1, “Titan,” seems to call out and invite the listener to consider life’s many beauties as well as its heartbreaks. The concert also includes a performance of Beethoven’s melodic and playful first piano concerto with French pianist Prisca Benoit, artist in residence at Sentara’s Music and Medicine Center.
